The second part hits a stumbling block when Tesh switches back and forth between the summer after the events of Silver in the Wood and the present.

The plot wanders, yet the book is still action-driven rather than atmospheric. Silver and Tobias start out with one goal–killing the vampire–but that morphs into a new goal partway through the first section of the book. To start with, the plot is less straightforward. Silver, helping her after an injury to her hip that impedes her ability to walk, and things are frosty between Silver and Tobias, although the reader doesn’t know exactly why. Silver writes to Silver and asks him to come help with getting rid of a vampire on the coast. They do function as separate books Drowned Country picks up a few years after the events of Silver in the Wood, when Mrs. And of course, since I’d just read the first installment, I couldn’t help but compare Drowned Country to it. Silver in the Wood was such a perfectly crafted novella–I didn’t feel like there were any extraneous words or scenes, and it was paced perfectly so I got all the way to the end and never felt particularly rushed but I was also never bored.

I think my biggest problem with Drowned Country is that I read it right after reading Silver in the Wood.
